Aokigahara: The Forest of Death

Located at the base of Mt. Fuji, Aokigahara is perhaps the most infamous forest in all of Japan. Also known as the Sea of Trees, Suicide Forest, and Japan’s Demon Forest, Aokigahara has been home to over 500 confirmed suicides since the 1950s. Called “the perfect place to die,” Aokigahara is the world’s second most popular place for suicide. The vast forest covers a 3,500 hectare wide area and the tree coverage in Aokigahara is so thick that even at high noon it’s entirely possible to find places shrouded in complete darkness. It’s also mostly devoid of animals and is eerily quiet. Hearing a bird chirping in the forest is incredibly rare. In addition to the isolation, compasses, cell phones, and GPS systems are often rendered useless by the rich deposits of magnetic iron in the area’s volcanic soil.
Wataru Tsurumui’s controversial 1993 bestseller, The Complete Suicide Manual, is a book that describes various modes of suicide and even recommends Aokigahara as the perfect place to die. Apparently this book is also a common find in the forest, usually not too far away from a suicide victim and their belongings. Undoubtedly, the most common method of suicide in the forest is hanging.
Besides bodies and homemade nooses, also scattered around the forest are signs put up by the police with messages like “Your life is a precious gift from your parents,” and “Please consult with the police before you decide to die,” in an attempt to discourage would be committers of suicide.
Due to the high amount of deaths, there are annual sweeps to remove the bodies found in the forest, the number often reaching around 100. The forest workers have it even worse than the police who comb and investigate the forest. The workers are tasked with the job of carrying the bodies down from the forest to the local station, where the bodies are put in a special room used specifically to house suicide corpses. The forest workers then play ‘janken’ to see who has to sleep in the room with the corpse. The reason for these strange sleeping arrangements is that it is believed if the corpse is left alone, it’s very bad luck for the ghost of the suicide victim. Their spirits are said to scream throughout the night if left alone, and their bodies will get up and shuffle around, searching for company.
Legend has it that in ancient times families would abandon people in the forest during periods of famine when there was not enough food to go around. By sacrificing family members to the forest, there would be less mouths to feed and therefore enough food for the rest of the family. Those abandoned in the forest would die long, horrible, drawn out deaths due to starvation. Because of that, Aokigahara is also said to be haunted by the souls of these abandoned people.
In addition, there are many other ghost and demon stories associated with the forest. It is said that these ghastly spirits glide between the trees with their white, shifting forms being occasionally spotted by unsuspecting visitors out of the corners of their eyes.

It’s weird how much I find this normal. I love Japan and Japanese culture but I also know that Japan has high suicide rates due to the extreme pressure students’ parents place on them. Now, I’m certain I’ve heard of this forest being referenced in mangas before but it’s still pretty creepy to think about. Even though we’ve probably explained it through various scientific data I love how we’ve got all these mysteries and mysterious places around the globe in this day and age. Makes my mind wander…

There’s all these anti-gay or anti-SSM Christians hating on the Westboro Baptist Church for being hatemongers but they don’t notice the fact that they’ve got the same God-Hates agenda.

Some people are utterly fucked up. And so is society.

Unfortunately, it’s those types of people that ‘manage society’—for now, at least.

Lauren Writes Her Thesis: Language Arts Teachers’ Resistance to Teaching LGBT Literature and Issues

This study, conducted by Amanda Haertling Thein, examines the responses of master’s education students to teaching LGBT literature in K-12 language arts classrooms. She found that 76% of the responses were negative (not in favor of teaching LGBT literature in classes). In each category of…

They speak of preparedness and reversal but what about those kids that HAVE come out to their peers or are trying to hide it because of fear of being ostracized (should they be forced to continue feeling this way?).

Also, what about those students who are just different-not necessarily LGBQ or T-and are bullied nonetheless? These “reasons” are ridiculous excuses at continuing to hold prejudiced beliefs in PUBLIC places in which kids SHOULD feel supported.

They will be bullied with or without the subject being taught in school if the parents of said bullies were teaching these kids to think like that and possibly act on that hate. That’s what this is: pure, narrow-minded, bigoted hate by people who are supposed to be professionals.

Those bullies will never learn tolerance if not introduced to the concept in (at the very least) a LEARNING environment.
This is like taking the same ANTI-GAY view if you continue to teach these kids ignorance.

Kids are being taught about the Holocaust but many kids nowadays don’t know that LGBQT’s as well as many others who were just different were prosecuted. I’m not saying one genocide was worse than the other but I think it’s about time America started treating this unreasonable hate like what it is: a disease of the country that only succeeds in constructing ghetto walls around a people that hold different lifestyles than the majority. The sooner these teachings are introduced to the public; the better.

To all the prejudiced assholes who attempt to JUSTIFY their reasons for hating.
Tumblr Themes Sometimes I feel controlled by my anger.

It feels better to let the rage wash over me and take all reason away so I can pretend I haven’t been hurt by their words/actions. Here, in this scarlet-colored world where hate knows no bounds I can let loose all those feelings of despair: I’m not wanted; no one has need of me; my existence is pointless. Here, I can feel something blind.. But it’s something.

9 Things I Hate About Everyone

1. People who point at their wrist asking for the time… I know where my watch is pal, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the toilet is?

2. People who are willing to get off their a** to search the entire room for the TV remote because they refuse to walk to the TV and change the channel manually.

3. When people say “Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too”. Damn Right! What good is cake if you can’t eat it?

4. When people say “it’s always the last place you look”. Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you’ve found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they?

5. When people say while watching a film, “did ya see that?” No Loser, I paid $12 to come to the cinema and stare at the damn floor!

6. People who ask “Can I ask you a question?”… Didn’t give me a choice there, did ya sunshine?

7. When something is ‘new and improved’. Which is it? If it’s new, then there has never been anything before it. If it’s an improvement, then there must have been something before it, couldn’t be new.

8. When people say “life is short”. What the hell??? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!!! What can you do thats longer?

9. When you are waiting for the bus and someone asks “Has the bus come yet?” If the bus came, would I be standing here???
